Teaching English in Mexico: How About the Northern States? Part 1 (Vacation destinations in mexico)
There’s a selection of jobs throughout the Northern region of Mexico. Proximity to the U.S. border makes it attractive to some English language teachers. The searing summertime heat keeps others away. The region will give you some choice and latitude as to where you’d like to “shake and bake”, as some locals would say. I’ll try to offer some suggestions for hotels and eateries for these areas in another article. So, let’s get to work:

Uninino has one position available for an enthusiastic primary school teacher. We are located in Agua Prieta, Sonora, Mexico, which is directly across the border from Douglas,Arizona. The city has a population of 100,000. Many people have the misconception that because Agua Prieta is a border town, that they will not get the Mexican Experience. This is not true. Agua Prieta is very much a Mexican town. We don’t even have a McDonalds. The new teacher would need to arrive in Agua Prieta by no later than the end of August. The pay is 500 U.S.D. Housing is provided in a shared apartment with two other foreign teachers. Working hours are from 7:30 am to 3:30 pm Monday to Friday. You get two weeks off at Christmas, and Easter break, along with all the Mexican holidays. These are with pay. Requirements are at least one year experience teaching in a foreign environment, TESOL certificate, a college degree in any discipline, be enthusiastic about children, have lots of patience, be age 25 or older and be willing to make a commitment of one year.

Details North Pacific English is currently looking for from 1 to 3 instructors, called English Motivators, to teach individuals 5 years old and above. The average work week will is around 35 hours, leaving plenty of time for personal development and travel in what is one of Mexico’s richest historical areas. All instructors must have a minimum of 2 years university or college education with a first degree preferred. We welcome applications from all fields. As per Mexican Visa Regulations all instructors must also have a valid CELTA or TESOL certificate at a minimum with 40 hours practicum. However, we will provide training should an applicant lack the 40 hours practicum.
Compensation: Base salaries can vary from $5500 – $8500 Mexican Pesos per month depending on the applicant’s qualifications. Bonuses and other benefits will be discussed with successful applicants. North Pacific English is a private language school dedicated to providing its clients with an unexpected level of service. Using one of Mexico’s few truly International English systems of instruction, North Pacific has classes no larger than 4 students per instructor. This is a private language school on the northwestern coast of Mexico, in a medium size city. The school was founded twelve years ago because of the great demand for English lessons. The school offers English courses from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. At present we have a student population of 640 and we teach young adults, adults and children. Every year we contact two teachers from the United States. Foreign teachers only teach adult students. Classes have an ideal number of students. For a language class, it’s five to twelve students per class. Each teacher has his or her own class and is responsible for planning lessons. There is a required and unpaid one week training course provided for teachers the week before classes begin. The school provides accommodation, and teachers are entitled to three hours per week of free Spanish lessons.
Qualifications include people with enthusiasm for teaching. Position requires strength in spoken and written English, patience for explaining grammar, and the ability to work well in a hot climate (classrooms do have air conditioning). They prefer someone with teaching experience. Arrangements: 30 hours per week teaching. Three hours per week free instruction in Spanish. Two positions are available.
